THIS IS WHY RONDELL EC AIR CURTAINS MAKE SENSE FOR REVOLVING DOORS IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS

Large public buildings such as museums, theatres and administrative buildings usually have large entrance areas and a high turnover of people. Instead of large doors, revolving doors are often used to counteract the draughts that would occur with other doors. However, due to the construction of such doors, cold air is carried into the building with every turn.

Visitors and employees find the cold air coming through such a revolving door when entering the building unpleasant. In the following article, we would like to explain in more detail how this influx of cold air can be counteracted.

HOW DOES THE REVOLVING DOOR WORK?

A revolving door is usually a device made of glass and/or metal in which a vertical axis supports two to four door leaves with the same angular dimension.

This carousel-like device rotates in a round housing. If it is mechanical, it moves by pushing and sliding the door; if it is electrically controlled, it moves automatically. The direction of rotation of revolving doors is clockwise in countries with left-hand traffic, and always counterclockwise in countries with right-hand traffic.

ADVANTAGES OF A REVOLVING DOOR

  • Many people can enter and leave the building at the same time
  • No direct draughts in the building
  • The entrance is also the exit
  • Revolving doors are architecturally sophisticated

Why are revolving doors actually used in public buildings?

Public facilities in administration, culture and education are characterised above all by the size of the building.

Especially in large enclosed spaces, operators of public buildings are interested in keeping energy costs low while still keeping the air in the building as pleasant as possible for visitors.

We know the classic revolving doors from our museums and large cinemas, but also from large administrative complexes. In all examples, large crowds of people enter the building at peak times. At the same time, however, visitors leave the building again. Here, the classic revolving door prevents the direct exchange of air between the interior and exterior areas. This significantly reduces draughts.

Reduce energy costs

When conventional doors are constantly opened and closed, previously heated air escapes in winter and cool air in summer. Air conditioning involves high energy costs; for this reason, revolving doors are used in large buildings. However, since each rotation of the revolving door also transports cool air (in summer, of course, vice versa) into the building, in many cases a door air curtain is integrated into the door system. The energy consumption of an air curtain system in combination with a revolving door is considerably lower than the reheating or air conditioning of the air carried into the building.

Air exchange with revolving doors: When entering, cold air (blue) enters the building, warm air escapes (red).

So if cold air has to be reheated in the large entrance area, there is an increased energy demand to maintain the pleasant indoor climate. This results in a higher energy balance at the end of the year.

RONDELL EC door air curtain system for revolving doors

Tekadoor has developed the air curtain model RONDELL EC for such thermal situations as an optimal technical solution to counteract these heat losses.

Advantages of the unit:

The main arguments for using RONDELL EC as a door air curtain system for revolving doors are:

  • Avoidance of energy losses – Increase in energy efficiency
  • Flexible and simple installation options, allowing installation as a surface-mounted, recessed or front-mounted unit.
  • Use of GreenTech (ebm papst) certified EC fans
  • Lower sick leave among staff due to pleasant room climate

The air curtain system can also be used in your building. Our RONDELL EC is suitable for all entrance areas where swing doors are used.

Our units are individually adapted to local conditions for our customers. This includes variables such as the diameter of the revolving door, height of the parapet, passage height and width, exit angle, RAL colour and type of installation.

Upon request, we can send you more information about successful installations in public properties to give you a better insight.

In recent years, we have equipped many properties with our units.
Flexible solutions, which we develop in direct cooperation with door manufacturers, have proven particularly successful. Even for more complex building projects.
