Things to Know

Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about our technologies, our company, and our services.
Concise, informative, and straight to the point.

General

History

Founded in 1981 in Leichlingen (Rhineland), we have grown to become one of Europe’s leading providers of air curtain systems for doors and gates. Our continuous growth led us to relocate our production facility to the neighboring town of Langenfeld in 2005. Since 2010, both our production and administrative operations have been housed in a modern, expanded company building there.

From our facility in Langenfeld, we distribute our products worldwide—all “Made in Germany,” of course. Ensuring the long-term future of our facility and preserving local jobs are of great importance to us. That is why we have remained loyal to our Rhineland home since our founding.

Production

"CAN'T BE DONE" IS NOT IN OUR VOCABULARY!

We manufacture our door and gate air curtain systems using state-of-the-art CNC sheet metal processing machines, but also with a great deal of handcraftsmanship and attention to detail, on a “just-in-time” basis. We do not maintain elaborate or costly inventory.
Short delivery times and maximum flexibility are guaranteed.

"Can't be done" isn't in our vocabulary! For years, we've viewed our customers' requests as challenges to be met. All of our products are manufactured with the utmost care by our experienced production staff, who have been with us for many years, and undergo a documented final inspection.

Technology

Heating capacity

The volume of air (V0) discharged at an initial temperature of, for example, +34 °C (tA) draws in ambient air from both sides of the airflow—depending on the mixing factor (m)—starting at the outlet. In the door area, these consist of outdoor and indoor air.

As a result of this physical behavior, the initial volume of air increases to the total volume of air moved by the jet. Both the initial velocity of the air jet and its initial temperature decrease in the process.

For our air curtain units, the output parameters are calculated so that, on the one hand, a residual velocity of approximately 1 m/s or more remains after the desired jet length has been reached, and, on the other hand, the room temperature—that is, approximately +20°C—is maintained. This is the only way to ensure effective operation.

Dual Technology

Two rows of fans generate two airflows inside—
an outer (unheated) and an inner (heated) airflow.
Separate airflow channels extend all the way to the air outlet. In this process,
the unheated outer airflow has a stabilizing effect on the
overall flow behavior, resulting in a greater throw distance
and optimized air curtain performance. Compared to
conventional air curtains, the reduction in heating power
is approximately 40%.

Louvered Air Discharge System

The louvered air discharge system is the oldest of our air discharge systems. It consists of one or more adjustable, teardrop-shaped aluminum louvers. Because the angle of each individual louver can be adjusted, the direction of airflow can be customized. The vanes produce a uniform, low-turbulence air jet that extends across the entire length of the unit. This airflow system is best suited for standard applications requiring normal levels of heating and shielding performance.

Jetflow Air Nozzle

The optimized Jetflow discharge nozzle is characterized by the wide range of adjustment options for the discharge angle as well as its adaptive asymmetric nozzle cross-section. The deliberate asymmetric adjustment of the Jetflow air guide profiles results in the following unique advantages:

  • a uniformly directed air jet with a longer throw distance
  • low noise level
  • Significantly improved shielding performance in critical situations
  • longer airflow path, resulting in more stable air quality
  • The nozzle cross-section adjusts to the discharge angle
  • Multiple adjustments to the airflow angle without tools

Coanvara-Flow Blow-Out Nozzle

Coanvara-Flow Blow-Out Nozzle

The Coanvara Flow discharge nozzle is a multi-nozzle system with optimized profile flanks and parallel adjustment of the discharge angle by 15° in both directions. By combining the individual jets according to the Coanda effect, an extra-wide air jet is created. The extra width results from the sum of the individual jets and the profile widths between them. The elongated profile flanks also act as rectifiers. The dynamic pressure produces a homogeneous jet pattern.

With its wide air jet, this blow-off system provides highly effective heating performance resulting from the Coanda effect between the individual jets. The overall jet, which has a desired low jet load factor (mixing factor), carries the selected initial temperature a great distance into the room and reaches the floor area while still at room temperature. This is essential to prevent the rooms from cooling down.

TWINtec® Counter-Current Principle

The TWINtec® counterflow principle generates an upstream, lightly
conditioned air curtain that blocks cold air directly at the door and
separates the climate zones. The inner, counter-rotating air roller blows warm air with
a significantly greater mass flow. This creates counter-directional
air curtain streams that are mutually stabilized by the depth effect
and thereby achieve greater throw distances and effectively prevent
cold air from penetrating, even at floor level. Thanks to the effective
and widely adjustable Synchrostream long-range nozzles, the airflow
is directed toward the floor more precisely and effectively than with conventional
air curtain systems. The result: optimal energy savings, comfort,
even in the entryway, and more usable floor space—the
pays off!

Housing

The various model-specific housing designs of our air curtains are manufactured as standard from galvanized sheet steel, some of which is plastic-coated. A variety of surface treatment processes are used, such as powder coating in all standard colors.

Upon request, the housings can also be made of stainless steel. Custom lengths and special requests are available upon inquiry.

Heat Exchanger

In TEKADOOR systems, air intake and heating always take place via the heat exchanger located on the intake side. To achieve an outlet temperature of approximately 34°C, the surface area of the heat exchanger is designed according to the available heating medium temperature.

Fans

TEKADOOR units use only high-quality fans from the manufacturer ebm-papst, Made in Germany.
With the exception of the TIC industrial air curtains (axial fans), TEKADOOR always uses double-inlet centrifugal fans. The advantage of this fan lies in its relatively low noise level combined with its compact size. All fans used by Tekadoor not only comply with the ErP Directive (minimum efficiency requirements for fans within the EU) but actually exceed these requirements. Most of our door air curtains come standard with fans featuring the proven Green-Tech EC technology from ebm-papst. Their efficiency in partial-load operation is >90%, approximately 30–35% higher than that of conventional AC motors. This not only increases efficiency but also reduces operating costs. In addition, EC fans offer further advantages, including soft start (resulting in a longer service life), lower noise levels, anti-stall protection, over-temperature protection for the electronics, and motor protection even at 60 Hz, among others.

Intake grille

Depending on the type and model, our air curtains use different intake grilles and grille shapes. We distinguish between an aluminum slatted grille with a reusable filter and a filterless fine-perforated grille or microgrille.

Pressure and Equalization Chamber

The air drawn in by the fan through the heating coil is blown into a pressure/equalization chamber. This chamber is located immediately upstream of the outlet nozzle and, in conjunction with the outlet nozzle, serves to create a laminar airflow with constant pressure across the entire outlet width. This also means that the proportion of turbulent flow is reduced. The higher the back pressure that can be generated by a nozzle, the easier it is to achieve a laminar airflow.

Installation Options

In principle, an air curtain system can be installed in plain view, flush with the ceiling, or within a suspended ceiling. If the air curtain is installed within a suspended ceiling, connectors or sliding connectors are required for air distribution. For suspended installation, a distinction is made between an SLW model (standard air curtain) with intake on the room side and an ULW model (reversed air curtain) with intake on the door side. Our Secon and Contur series are ideally suited for ULW installation. Our Colum and Wing designer air curtains were developed specifically for vertical and Dual applications, while the Ellipse and Nouveauline series are designed for horizontal, visible installation. The Zephyr, Secon, and Contur air curtain series can be installed either in plain view or recessed into the ceiling. Only the Zephyr and Dual cassette series are suitable exclusively for flush-to-ceiling installation.

Parallelogram of Forces

Air is expelled vertically

The resultant force in the parallelogram of forces is directed inward. As a result, outside air flows inside and cools the interior spaces.

Air is blown in the opposite direction of the wind

The resultant force in the force parallelogram is directed vertically. As a result, outside air does not enter the interior, and warm indoor air does not escape to the outside. The temperature remains constant.

Control Assignment

Depending on the model, TEKADOOR air curtains are connected via compatible control and regulation units. Here is an overview.
